TOURISM

In the first nine months of 2009 alone, Bicol tourism had hit the P1 billion mark in revenues and generated some 2,126,107 jobs which made the region one of the top tourist destinations last year. Nini Ravanilla, regional director of the Department of Tourism (DoT), said  Bicol is expected to leap from sixth rank to fourth rank once the data in the last quarter of 2009 had been computed. Ravanilla surmised Bicol’s growth in tourist arrivals have been delivered by the three “icons” of tourism in the region---Mayon Volcano, CWC and Whaleshark.
