Investments

 

   Value of investments in the fourth quarter was Php 1.4 billion, higher by 43 percent as compared to the third quarter (Table 3) and 82 percent greater than that in the same quarter last year.  The growth from the third quarter was greatly attributed to the growth in investments in Albay (185 percent) and Sorsogon (91 percent).  Investments in other provinces weakened from 23 percent in Camarines Sur to 52 percent in Catanduanes. 

 

A big chunk of the Php 544 million increase in investments is the Php 400 million Embarcadero Project in Legazpi City. In Sorsogon, investments was dominated by construction and manufacturing.  In Masbate City, Crown B Agro-Development and Management Incorporated made a Php35-million investment on aquaculture project last October.

 

The 43 percent increase in investments did not translate to a positive growth in employment generated by new investments (see Table).
