MINING

 

   Residents of Aroroy, Masbate are protesting against the multi-billion peso Filminera mining firm, a subsidiary of Australia and Canada-based Central Gold Asia Limited. (CGA), which is girded up to conduct an open pit mining operation here. Marcial C. Velasco, president of the Association of Concerned Residents of Aroroy Inc. (ACRA) told Bicol Mail, a local newspaper,  that since the exploration of the Filminera mining firm started, thousands of residents could be displaced from their own land even as the primary source of their potable water supply were allegedly already cut off by the mining firm.
