   DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS

The next reporting period would most likely be affected by the following developments:

  • either by the worsening of the restive status of Mayon Volcano that could lead into a hazardous eruption or by a gradual decline in the volcano’s activity indicating that the volcano is no longer in danger of imminent eruption;

  • resolution of concerns affecting residents in the project area of the Libmanan-Cabusao dam project that should lead to the resumption of its construction;

  • sustained construction of the Southern Luzon International Airport in Alobo, Daraga, Albay to ensure its target completion by 2012;

  • continuing boom in tourism with more foreign tourists being drawn into the region, through Albay and Legazpi City, by the spectacle of a Mayon volcano eruption;

  • full implementation of the extension of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program in the province of Albay, extending the benefits to some 70,000 poor families in 11 municipalities.
