Historical Landmarks
Dr. Jose Rizal Monument - this
is the first monument in the Philippines erected in honor of
Philippine hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal. Its foundation was made of mortars
and boulders from the demolished old Spanish jail in Daet. Lt. Col.
Antonio Sanz and Lt. Col. Ildefonso Alegre of the Philippine
Revolutionary Army initiated the construction of the monument. It was
unveiled on December 20, 1898.
Monument of the Martyrs of
Camarines Norte - the monument honors Katipuneros and the sons of
Daet and neighboring municipalities who fought for freedom against the
Spaniards in 1898. It was built and inaugurated in 1996 through the
efforts of the relatives and friends of the martyrs.
Housed of the First of Ambos
Camarines - this is the oldest house in Daet. It was owned by the
first Governor of Ambos Camarines. It is popular for its "cuatro-agua"
style of construction. However, this has not been maintained and has
been colonized by weeds and grasses. As a tourist destination, it is
not recommended given its present state.
Pabico Ancestral Home -
thePabico home (circa 1918) is still grand with its stone staircase
with rococo-style carvings is still intact after so many centuries.
Religious Sites
St. John the Baptist Church -
this is a new structure where the former 16th century old St. John the
Baptist Church formerly stood. It has a 2-feet wooden image of the
patron site enclosed in a glass-paneled niche of the altar. It is
artistically crafted with the twin hearts of Jesus and Mary. The back
is adorned by a sculpture of Saints Peter and Paul. It was built by
the Marquis de Camarines, Don Manuel dela Estrada.
Holy Trinity Cathedral - the
church features the Holy Trinity image complete with other religious
icons. It is also the residence of the Bishop of the Diocese of Daet.
Natural and Scenic Spots
Bagasbas Beach - a 1-kilometer
beach stretches in Barangay Bagasbas which is one of the growing
popular sites among surfers. It is located 4 kilometers from the town
proper. It features left and right beach break that goes up to 8 feet
during typhoon season. The regular waves are 3 to 4 feet.
Tong's Point - located
northeast of Bagasbas
River Mouth - located at Brgy.
Dogongan and San Isidro, it has a left reef break
Man-Made Attractions
Kalayaan Park - a new park
located in front of the provincial capitol. It contains a panoramic
garden view, fountain, lagoon and open theater. It also features a
mural depicting the historical, cultural and natural resources of
Camarines Norte province. Likewise, it features the 9 feet bronze
statues of Dr. Jose P. Rizal and Wenceslao Q. Vinzons.
Elevated Town Plaza - the park,
located in mid-town of Daet, provides a panoramic garden view,
benches, playground facilities, pipe-in music and wide-screen TV for
public use.
Rizal Mini Park- it contains
the historical Rizal Monument and the Monument of Martyrs of Camarines
Norte. It has a playground and benches. It was built by the Rotary
Club of Daet.
Provincial Capitol -
reconstructed from 1986 to 1995, the provincial capitol is the seat of
the provincial governor of Camarines Norte. It has 12 big front
columns representing the 12 municipalities of the province.
Children's Park - located at
Barangay Bagasbas, the park contains concrete look-alike of various
animal species.
FESTIVAL and EVENTS
Daet Pineapple Festival -
celebrated every second week of June. It is highlighted by street
dancing competitions, search for the Pineapple Festival Queen and
holding of different sports competition.
Our Lady of Peņafrancia Fluvial
Procession - celebrated during the 4th week of September after the
Naga City Fiesta
Daet Town Fiesta - celebrated
every June 24.
