Festival and Events
PAGSU'WAK FESTIVAL - Guinobatan is basically an agricultural municipality. In
fact, the first rural high school for agriculture was established in said town,
which was later changed to Roxas Memorial Agricultural School in recognition of
President Manuel Roxas’act in upgrading it into higher educational level. When
the Bicol University was created, the institution was adopted as an integral
part of its agricultural college. In the history of the municipality, it is
noted that in the later part of 1700’s, the rapid growth of aggrupation in the
place prompted the officials to open new avenues and opportunities for
commercial operations that later made Guinobatan as the center of Trade. The
quality and quantity of the farm products thereon became alluring to the people
as far as Pilar and Donsol, Sorsogon thereby declaring two market days in the
town on Thursdays and Sundays as far as back those years. Cognizance therefore
of the intrinsic significance, Pagsu’wak Festival is just fitting and proper for
the municipality as it connotes relevance on its foundation and upheavals. This
event is being commemorated every 1-15th days of August.
