Funding by both the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the
Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) of a farm-to-market road
re-opening project in Barcelona, Sorsogon is being endorsed by the
RDC after the Economic Development Committee backed the proposal
during the September 3 full council meeting.
The proposed 9.195 km. farm-to-market road will connect barangays
San Antonio, Fabrica, San Ramon and Sta. Lourdes at a cost of P30
million. Beda Priela of the EDC said that the committee’s review of
the project indicated that its completion will provide fast, easy
and safe transport of people and farm products from said barangays
to the town proper. It will also lessen freight costs and shorten
travel time thus boosting farmers’ income and productivity.
The RDC concurred with the EDC recommendation for the sourcing of
appropriate funding from the DA’s allotments under the Agriculture
and Fisheries Modernization Act (AFMA). In addition, RDC Chair –
Gov. Joey Salceda instructed the Secretariat to furnish the DAR a
copy of the proposal for possible funding consideration under its
ARCDP III program.
