Bridges proposed by the DPWH in Bicol for the Mega Bridges for Urban
and Rural Development Project under the President’s Bridge Program
were endorsed by the RDC5 for funding under the French bilateral
loan.
The
approved bridges included the Ligban Bridge in Camalig, Albay; the
Gabawan-Kiwalo Bridge in Daraga, Albay; the Cagbacung Bridge in
Legazpi City; the Sagrada Bridge in Buhi, Camarines Sur; and the
Panaytayan Bridge in Ragay, Camarines Sur.
NEDA
ARD Luis Banua, who spoke for the Infrastructure Development
Committee (IDC) during the RDC meeting last September 3, said that
the five bridges were found to be technically and economically
viable by the DPWH Project Management Office based on acceptable
criteria.
Banua said that the proposed bridges will help provide easier access
to basic social services and market facilities benefiting
especially the farmers in food-producing and hunger prone areas of
the country.
Aside from the five bridges, Banua said that the IDC, during its
meeting on July 17, reviewed and approved the proposed Barit Bridge
in Iriga City. He also cited the request of the provincial
government of Albay to include the Buenavista Bridge in Pio Duran
municipality.
All
five bridges proposed by the DPWH including the Barit Bridge in
Iriga and the Buenavista Bridge in Pio Duran were favorably
considered by the Council for endorsement under the Mega Bridges for
Urban and Rural Development Project.
Further, another package of bridge projects were endorsed by the RDC
under the Major Inter-Regional Bridges Construction Project for
Rural Development, which was formerly known as the Urgent Bridges
Construction for Rural Development, Phase II.
The
four bridges, in addition to five previously endorsed bridges under
the same package were identified as: Catburawan Bridge, 120 linear
meters, at the Albay West Coast Road; Calao Bridge, 60 L.M. at
Gubat-Prieto Diaz Road; Taboc Bridge, 75 L.M. at Juban-Magallanes
Road; and San Fernando Bridge, 25 L.M. at junction Legazpi-Sto.
Domingo Road.
