Council backs bill vs corporal punishment

Bicol’s Regional Development Council urges congressmen from the region  to help push the swift passage of a bill banning all forms of corporal punishment of children and institutionalizing positive developments to counter the ill-effects of punishment.

The Social Development Committee (SDC) of the RDC has earlier expressed its support for the bill authored by Congresswoman Monica Teodoro, which seeks to provide interventions by welfare officers for abused children,  including psycho-social interventions, protective custody, temporary placement of the child, medical and legal services as well as seminars on children’s rights and counseling.

Under the bill, the DSWD shall formulate a comprehensive program to prevent corporal punishment of children in coordination with other government organizations and parent-teachers associations.

Copies of the RDC’s resolution of support were furnished to the Bicolano Congressmen,  to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, as well as to the Committee on the Revision of Laws.
